The conference aims to promote theory and 13: application and covers the whole range of agent- and multi-agent 14: technologies. 15: For the seventh time, the German special interest group on Distributed 16: Artificial Intelligence organizes this international conference in 17: cooperation with the steering committee of MATES and thereby continues 18: this very successful track of events. 19: 20: Building on the successful 21: [predecessors>http://www-ags.dfki.uni-sb.de/~klusch/mates-series/index.html] from 2003 to 2008, MATES 2009 takes place from 22: September 9 to 11, 2009 in Hamburg, Germany. 23: 24: MATES 2009 is co-sponsored by the GI/ITG special interest group on Communication and Distributed Systems (KuVS) and co-organized by the research and technology transfer centre of the Department of Informatics at the University of Hamburg ([HITeC>http://www.hitec-hh.de/eng]). 25: 26: 27: 1.1 Colocated Events 28: 29: MATES 2009 will be colocated with the [Tenth International Workshop on Computational Logic in Multi-Agent Systems (CLIMA’09)>CLIMA.Home] and the Fifth 30: [International Workshop on Modelling of Objects, Components, and Agents 31: (MOCA’09)>http://www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/TGI/events/moca09/]. The participants of MATES 2009 will also have full access to the 32: concurrently running program of these events. 33: 34: 1.1 Topics 35: 36: Topics of interest of MATES 2009 include all aspects of 37: agent-oriented computing and agent technologies: basic and applied 38: research; reports on experiences with deployed real-world applications; 39: and detailed visions and challenges for mid- to long-term progress in 40: the field grounded in experience reports or analyses of the overall 41: technical, economical, and social context. MATES 2009 encourages 42: specifically submissions from an emerging area of interest with a 43: close connection to multi-agent systems: self-organizing systems and 44: autonomic computing. 45: 1.1 Exhibition 46: 47: An additional part of the technical program of MATES 2009 will be 48: live exhibitions and of development tools, prototype technologies, 49: showcases of practical applications and their man-agement, and business 50: cases of agent and multi-agent technology at the conference venue. Each 51: potential exhibitor is requested to submit an exhibition paper 52: describing the contribution that follows the submission details of 53: technical papers but does not exceed 10 pages. Exhibition papers will 54: be reviewed and published as part of the conference proceedings. 55: At the conference, a special track for exhibition paper presentations 56: will be held in addition to the live presentation of the practical 57: work at poster stands. 58: 1.1 Proceedings 59: 60: As in previous editions of MATES, the proceedings of MATES 2009 61: will be published in the Springer series of Lecture Notes on Artificial 62: Intelligence (LNAI). 63: 64: 1.1 Doctoral Mentoring Program 65: 66: MATES 2009 will include a doctoral mentoring program, aimed at PhD 67: students in early as well as advanced stages of their research. This 68: program will provide an opportunity for students to interact closely 69: with established researchers in their fields, to receive feedback on 70: their work and to get advice on managing their careers. 71: 72: It will: 73: 74: * match each student with an established researcher who will act as a mentor. 75: * allow students an opportunity to present their work to a friendly audience of other students, as well as mentors. 76: * provide students with contacts and networking opportunities. 77: 78: <!-- 79: The doctoral mentoring program consists mainly of a one day doctoral 80: symposium scheduled for September 9, 2009 (?). 81: -->
